iPhone FrontWith a little over three weeks since the Apple iPhone has been released, there are quite a few reasons to not purchase the current iPhone.  I will be going over the top ten reasons.  The list may include a few reasons why you may have not purchased the Apple iPhone.

This list was born from usage of the iPhone and the MDA running Windows Mobile 5 from T-Mobile, which came out last year.

  1. The price is too high for this over hyped under performing cell phone.  Costing between $499, $599 and a two year service agreement from AT&T, Apple is making between $200 and $220 off of the parts for the iPhone alone.  The original price for the MDA from T-Mobile with a one year contract was $349.
  2. The iPhone does not take advantage of the AT&T 3G network.  It is only EDGE capable.  The MDA is EDGE capable and it can be used as a modem to a PC or Mac via BlueTooth.
  3. There is no SlingBox software for the iPhone.  While using both the MDA’s wireless Internet or the iPhone’s, there are many that would like to use their SlingBox.  The MDA could connect to the SlingBox since the begging of last year.
  4. iPhone does not have instant messaging or chat software.  The MDA has chat software for AOL’s Instant Messenger, ICQ and Yahoo Instant Messenger.
  5. The iPhone does not work directly with Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes or Sun Java Enterprise Systems.  Software from Synchronica Gateway finally allows the iPhone to work corporate email systems.  The MDA was built with Exchange in mind as it has the connection software built-in from Microsoft.
  6. iPhone can not edit office documents.  The MDA has office software.
  7. iPhone does not have a to-do list widget.  The MDA has your to-do’s on the main screen.
  8. The note app on the iPhone is not useful.  The MDA’s note app allows copy and paste along with a voice recording option.
  9. The iPhone does not have enough storage, even at a maximum of 8GB.  The MDA has a memory slot to expand storage but only comes with less than 1GB.
  10. The iPhone is not customizable as most Apple computer systems are.  The MDA allows a lot of customization with free downloadable programs from changing the interface to adding functionality to the main screen.

I am as excited for the future of the Apple iPhone as the next Apple fan.  The iPhone will change a lot in the coming months as most of the developers will start to release their programs.  Some of the most exiciting features will be added either in the next iPhone or the iPhone nano as most analysts have predicted.
