Apple Mac Pro PCI Express RAID Card Option

Apple’s Mac Pro received a new PCI Express RAID card option.  It was introduced at the same time as the new iMac 4th generation model at the Apple Press Event.  Most users are not looking to add an additional $999 to the pricetag of their new Mac Pro purchase but at least it’s available for those power users out there.

The specs on the new RAID card option are up to 304MBps of sequential read performance in RAID 0, supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 0+1, and Enhanced JBOD.  It has 256MB of cache and an integrated 72-hour battery for memory protection.

A MacPro purchased with the RAID card will ship with each hard drive individually configured in the Enhanced JBOD level.  However, if you do not prefer this configuration, the hard drives can be migrated into a different RAID setup.  This can be done without reinstalling OS X by using the RAID Utility software provided by Apple. Via Engadget.
