iPhone Outsells Smartphones in July 2007Apple’s iPhone has reached a level where it has outsold all smartphones in the U.S., according to research group iSuppli.  The Apple iPhone cellphone during its first full month of sales accounted for 1.8 percent of all U.S. cellphone handset sales.  The research firm iSuppli forecasts that Apple would sell 4.5 million iPhones for 2007.  Sales should rise to more than 30 million units by 2011.

A key fact from iSuppli’s research shows that of the two iPhone cellphone models, they sold more than Research in Motion’s Blackberry, all of Palm’s offerings and any smartphone from Samsung, Nokia and Motorola.

The data did show however, that sales equaled that of LG Electronic’s Chocolate cellphones.  The Chocolate sold by Verizon Wireless is the ost popular feature phone in the U.S.

The research firm says that the Apple iPhone is a crossover phone that pulls double duty when it competes with smartphones on the functions like, e-mail and feature phones, which have cameras and music capabilities.

Sales are expected to triple in 2008 when the Apple iPhone starts selling in Europe starting in late November or December of 2007.  Only time will tell on how fast the iPhone will take a foothold in cellphone industry.
