Apple Sells 1 Million iPhones In 74 DaysApple has sold one million iPhones after just 74 days on sale.  The milestone happened just days after Apple reduced the price of the 8GB iPhone by $200 to $399 with a two year agreement on the AT&T wireless network.  One million in sales for the Apple cellphone was reached weeks earlier than what was forecast.

In comparison, Apple took two years to sell one million iPods.  In a surprising move not even rumored, Apple discontinued selling the 4GB model of the iPhone cellphone.  If people are looking for a deal on a refurbished iPhone 4GB, Apple is still selling its remaining units until they are sold out.

A statement by Shaw Wu, an analyst at the American Technology Research firm said, “I’d argue that sales have been fairly strong, and this alleviates concerns that sales were weak.”  The reduction in price has made a lot of early iPhone adopters upset, so in a move not seen often, Apple credited $100 to purchasers for use in the Apple Store.

This may be the price cut that most people were waiting for to buy the new cellphone.  This is also a move to spur holiday season purchases.  Buyers may have another iPhone to choose from before January 1, 2008.  It is rumored that there will be a 3G iPhone with 16GB of memory to be available by that time.  It is unknown if the new version will only be available for European carriers as well as AT&T wireless. Via CNN.
