Blue Microphones Mikey Second GenerationBlue Microphones have announced their second generation Mikey Portable Recorder for the iPhone and iPod Touch.  Blue has previously wowed iPod and Mac fans with their previous releases of the Snowball, Snowflake, and Mikey original.

The second gen Mikey is still being considered for iPhone certification, although it looks like a powerful professional recording solution for iPhone users when it is supposed to arrive in the Spring.  Mikey features two Blue mic capsules for pro-quality stereo recording, but now has slightly improved acoustic circuitry for better recordings such as concerts.

The new second gen Mikey has a 3.5mm line input for when you want to plug in a sound source like a mixer or guitar.  There’s also a USB pass-through connection ofr charging and syncing capabilities.  A new design for the case makes Mikey usable with most iPhone cases, and the mic can be adjusted to seven fixed positions within 230-degrees for optimal positioning.  Blue is including a soft carrying pouch for Mikey, along with a headphone extension cable for playback monitoring with the iPod Touch and Nano.

Blue has put a high-fidelity field recording app for iPhone and iPod touch into the iTunes Apple App Store.  Blue Fire, which is free in the App Store, has been out for a few months and is optimized for the second gen Mikey.  The combo of the high-quality microphone and free software produces a complete mobile recording experience.

The second generation Mikey by Blue will be available at Apple Stores, Guitar Center, and Amazon this spring. Via Tuaw.
