iPhone Too Expensive For UK BuyersBritains looking to purchase a new cell phone this winter may be wanting for something other than an Apple iPhone.  A polling company from the UK, GfK NOP, asked 500 people around the island nation about the iPhone cell phone.

They have found that almost three-quarters of the people polled said the cell phone is priced to high.  Eighty-eight percent of the people polled said that they had heard of the Apple iPhone.

However, only two percent said that they would like an iPhone for Christmas.  Another five percent enjoyed the styling of the iPhone but also liked a number of other cellular phones.

Eight percent did not like the look of the iPhone.  Only twelve percent of the sample group had never heard of the iPhone which is great news for Apple.  O2, the preferred mobile carrier in the UK plus Apple are running commercials for the iPhone which are working to inform the public.  The high percentage of Britains knowing about the iPhone is unfortunately not translating into that high of an amount of cell phone sales according to The Register.

UK consumers are not accustomed to paying so much for a cell phone.  If Apple and O2 want sell more of their new mobile device, it is suggested to promote it more like a mobile music player that happens to work as a cellular phone as well.  GfK NOP spokesman Richard Jameson says, “Apple needs more than cutting-edge design to penetrate this (UK) market and will have to work much harder in the UK than it did in the US to make iPhone a mass-market proposition.” Via The Register.
