Apple iPod Sixth BirthdayToday is the day that Apple’s wildly popular music player the iPod, that has seen over 100 million units sold, had it’s birthday.  The day that the original iPod was released, I had mine ordered knowing that this was the next breakout consumer electronics device.  After I received mine from Taiwan, via global express shipping, it was immediately connected to iTunes.  The ease of use, the box it was shipped in, the amount of accessories included was all great.  A year after use, I decided to purchase a new iPod so it went up for sale.

It was a sad day to let it go, but it was in the hands of a new iPod owner having the same experience I did when I first cracked the plastic on the glossy box.  The iPod was in pristine condition when sold with a few accessories purchased for it.  During the first year of the iPod release, the headphone port on the top was rumored to be powered.  After a few months of speculation, the rumors were put to rest when Apple released details to third party developers about how to make accessories for the powered port.  The remote control was then released and the race began around the world to make compatible iPod products.

It truly was an amazing time to be part of the original Apple iPod revolution and it still is to this day.  Sometime later the original iPod was in not so great condition and I offered to take it back.  It was cleaned up, a new battery was added and the latest firmware was installed.  It still serves a purpose even today.

Gone are the days of collecting every version of the iPod.  New ones are picked up that truly have inspired change.  The iPhone is no different and one can only imagine how it will evolve over the next six years. Via Tuaw.
